Program Overview

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe since the fall of the Communist government in l989, Prague offers a rich cultural, historical, and architectural experience. From the famous Charles Bridge, to Old Town to Mala Strana (where the Anglo-American University is located), every corner turned offers sites to savor. The city is pedestrian-friendly and walking from one destination to another is enjoyable and easy to do. For destinations too far to walk, the city offers a good and inexpensive tram system.

Entertainment abounds in Prague. Special days, festivals and public holidays are widely celebrated so visitors can observe and participate in these local traditions. Musical performances from classical to jazz to rock are frequent; there is also an International Music Festival (May/June) and a Mozart Festival (September). It is not uncommon to walk down the streets of Prague and be handed flyers for upcoming events and performances.

The AAU campus is located in the heart of Mala Strana, one block from the Charles Bridge. The university is housed in a restored 18th Century palace of the Knights of Malta. With a diverse student body and a small-college environment, AAU offers a western-style education experience that is unique in Prague. The university consists of 430 students, of which 60% are internationals representing thirty-three countries. The university is known as an educational institution promoting an international perspective and intercultural learning environment.

Academic Profile

Anglo-American University in Prague

The Anglo-American University, founded in l990, is an English-language liberal arts university offering an undergraduate education in Business, Humanities, International Relations and Diplomacy, and Legal Studies. All classes are taught in English by Czech and international faculty. The AAU community is student-centered and highly interactive. Class sizes are small, and the faculty emphasizes independent thinking, precise reasoning, clear writing, and the practical and creative application of acquired knowledge and skills.

Course Offerings

Students studying for one semester may take a range of courses offered by AAU in art history, economics, education, finance, international relations and diplomacy, journalism, history, legal studies, marketing, management, philosophy, political science, psychology, religious studies, and sociology. Beginning Czech language is also offered.

Students studying in summer may enroll in two courses in Business and Humanities. Summer classes meet twice per week for three-hour sessions.

Activities and Opportunities

Student Life

Students are housed in apartments in Prague. There are two students in each double room and there is a kitchen and bath in each apartment. Single rooms are available on a first-come first-served basis at an additional cost. Depending on the location of the apartment, students may need to take a tram to school which is relatively inexpensive. Students may prepare their own meals or purchase meals at local restaurants at reasonable prices.

Must have completed a minimum of 3 semester at the college/university level prior to departure and obtained a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

Semester: $6,878

Costs Included

tuition, administrative fees, housing,orientation and health insurance.

Costs Not Included

airfare ($900-1200), meals($1200-1400), books ($200-300), and personal expenses ($1500-1700 per month).
