Module I: An Environmental Experiential Learning Summer Program
Course Title: Community Based Tourism and Natural Resource Management in Namibia
Credit Hours: 6
Duration: 4 weeks, June 20- July 15, 2012
Course Description:
This unique travel/learn course is designed for students who enjoy learning inside and outside the classroom. The course includes theoretical and practical study about wildlife, vegetation and attractions in Namibia, and what these areas have to offer as attractions to tourists visiting Namibia. A part of this course will include the planning and operating of a field trip requiring students to plan and operate the actual tour. Students will complete such activities such as setting up a bush camp. Students will view and study some the wildlife and vegetation at the visited sites in Namibia. Students will be required to present assignments based on the field work and attractions visited. The travel will be approximately 12 days. Possible travel sites include Waterberg Plateau Park, Etosha National Park, Uis, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Nauklaft Park, Sossusvlei, and Fish River Canyon.

Module II: Community Development in Namibia
Course Title: Service Learning In Namibia
Credit Hours: 6
Duration: 4 weeks, June 20- July 15, 2012
Course Description:
This course is designed for students interested in proving service to in-need communities in Namibia. The course includes an orientation to the African and Namibian social environment. Students will engage in service learning work with civil society organizations to provide service to in-need communities of women and children. Students will work at civil society organizations such as an orphans home, legal aid society, HIV-Aids support group or women's support organization. Students will be required to present assignments based on the field work.
All majors are eligible. No prerequisites.
Students may only take 6 credit hours. All instruction is in English.
