University of Dundee in Dundee

Founded in 1881 as University College of St. Andrews, Scotland's oldest University since 1411, the University of Dundee was established in 1967 and is now Scotland's University with the widest range of courses. Two-thirds of its departments or schools have received "excellent" or "highly satisfactory" teaching quality assessment ratings (TQA) from the funding council SHEFC. Located within the city center, the campus offers easy access to Dundee's cultural and social life, while forming a close community with a stimulating atmosphere. The university offers a wide range of student support services, student clubs and social/recreational facilities, such as sport halls and computer labs.

Course Offerings

College of Life Sciences (7.5 US Credits)

The College of Life Sciencess will offer a special inter-disciplinary course designed for science majors interested in Life Science research, medicine or any health-related field. This six week course will include lectures from experts in the field and the opportunity to do research in forensic anthroloplogy and drug discovery.

Classes will be held in Dundee's newly refurbished teaching facilities, research laboratories equipped with the latest instrumentation and anatomy laboratories where students will have access to human cadavors and plastinated human specimens.

Architecture/Art History (7.5 US Credits)

In this six week course students will examine the unique architecture of Scottish tower-houses - their histories and the way they have influenced contemporary architectural practice. They will also examine the contemporary dilemma of conservation/restoration/intervention.   Students will have the opportunity to learn and and engage with different disciplinary techniques in recording, analysing and communicating about complex spaces and situations.

Creative Writing (3 US Credits)

The Creative Writing Summer School is a three week intensive course designed to introduce students to Creative Writing practice, encouraging them to produce a piece of writing in the form of a short story, a series of poems, or a script. Students will be guided and taught by experienced, high-profile writers and a team of academics dedicated to Creative Writing teaching.

 

 

Academic Highlights

The University of Dundee offers an excellent academic program; with two thirds of its departments or schools having received “Excellent” or Highly Satisfactory” teaching quality assessment ratings.  The academic calendar is based on the US semester schedule (Fall, Spring & Summer).

 

Student Life

The university campus (18,000 students) is centrally located in the city of Dundee. The city's main pedestrian zone with its many shops, cinemas, theaters, restaurants and bars, and the waterfront promenade are within a five-minute walk of the campus. The main campus is a pleasing blend of old and new buildings in an attractive setting of lawns and gardens overlooking the mile-wide Tay estuary. Teaching, recreational and residential buildings are side by side to form a friendly self-contained community. Students live in a single occupant room in University of Dundee residence halls either on campus or within easy walking distance to the campus. The residence halls are self-catered. Students have access to university student clubs, leisure and sports facilities and student support services. Ten computer clusters with several hundred computers are open to students for internet/email access. Sport facilities include a fitness center (single rowers for cardiovascular training), two large sport halls with basketball/volleyball/badminton courts, a pool and a gymnasium.

Student Services
With an international student population of more than 20%, coming from more than 80 countries, the University of Dundee is very experienced in providing excellent services to study abroad students.  Conveniently located within walking distance from the city center, the campus itself is fully integrated with all recreational, sports and social facilities on one site.  CCIS students receive pre-departure guidance, orientation, and have access to the full range of university facilities and social activities, such as the Student Union, the University Chaplancy, and Student Advisory Service.  There are 10 IT suites on campus with several hundred PC’s, and most of residence halls are connected to the University network.

Housing

The University guarantees accommodation to study abroad students.   All accommodations are self-catered and are fitted with kitchen/dining/living rooms. They are either on campus or within a very short walking distance from the campus. Students live in a single occupant room with en-suite bathrooms.

Step 1.
Submit the following documents to CCIS/Brookdale by April 1. Start the CCIS Study Abroad application process by downloading the forms. To download, right click on the application or recommendation form and click "save as", then save the form to your desktop or downloads. Once you have completed your form, SAVE IT FIRST!!!! DO NOT CLICK "SUBMIT" until you have SAVED your form or the recipient will receive a BLANK form. Once you have saved it, click "submit" and THEN email your completed form as an attachment to the contact email address associated with the program in which you are applying. If for some reason you do not see the email address pop up when you click "submit", then email the application to the program sponsor listed here on this page.

Also be prepared to upload a legible copy of your passport, digital photos and to indicate the modules (classes) you have selected.
