Academic Profile & Summer Course Offerings
Founded in 1881 as University College of St. Andrews, Scotland's oldest University since 1411, the University of Dundee was established in 1967 and is now Scotland's University with the widest range of courses. Two-thirds of its departments or schools have received "excellent" or "highly satisfactory" teaching quality assessment ratings (TQA) from the funding council SHEFC. Located within the city center, the campus offers easy access to Dundee's cultural and social life, while forming a close community with a stimulating atmosphere. The university offers a wide range of student support services, student clubs and social/recreational facilities, such as sport halls and computer labs.
Course Offerings
College of Life Sciences (7.5 US Credits)
The College of Life Sciencess will offer a special inter-disciplinary course designed for science majors interested in Life Science research, medicine or any health-related field. This six week course will include lectures from experts in the field and the opportunity to do research in forensic anthroloplogy and drug discovery.
Classes will be held in Dundee's newly refurbished teaching facilities, research laboratories equipped with the latest instrumentation and anatomy laboratories where students will have access to human cadavors and plastinated human specimens.
Architecture/Art History (7.5 US Credits)
In this six week course students will examine the unique architecture of Scottish tower-houses - their histories and the way they have influenced contemporary architectural practice. They will also examine the contemporary dilemma of conservation/restoration/intervention. Students will have the opportunity to learn and and engage with different disciplinary techniques in recording, analysing and communicating about complex spaces and situations.
Creative Writing (3 US Credits)
The Creative Writing Summer School is a three week intensive course designed to introduce students to Creative Writing practice, encouraging them to produce a piece of writing in the form of a short story, a series of poems, or a script. Students will be guided and taught by experienced, high-profile writers and a team of academics dedicated to Creative Writing teaching.
